The other day, my wife, who is as apolitical as it is possible to be, asked me this very question. Except she didn’t use the word “Heck”.

She was perplexed because it seems as if there are more people out there who share our conservative values but we never hear about them. We never hear conservative viewpoints on the mainstream media or popular TV. We have to cope with “woke” people in every walk of life.

And what are they doing? They’re running roughshod over our traditional American values of hard work and independence. Instead of celebrating the individual and what he or she can accomplish, they foster government dependency and celebrate when record numbers of people are receiving government “assistance”. Every policy stand they take is demonstrably wrong. They claim the mantle of “science” without having a clue what science entails.

While the professional Left likes to paint their opponents as “fascists’, they are the true fascists, ruthlessly suppressing dissenting voices and rioting when they don’t get their way. Speaking of riots, while leftist mobs in Democrat-run cities were trying to change public policy and intimidate voters (they weren’t boarding up shops in big cities because they thought Biden would win), Democrat politicians not only failed to condemn the violence, they incited it.

As an example of what happens when one crosses the mob, leftist hooligans harassed Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) on his houseboat for his opposition to the $3,500,000,000,000 “reconciliation” bill. Not to be outdone, leftist “protestors” followed Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) into the bathroom at Arizona State University to harass her for her opposition to the multi-trillion-dollar expansion of government.

For those of us who love liberty and limited government it seems as if our culture in America is wholly owned by the Left. And indeed, the Left is ascendant in our country today. For a look at how that came to be, I recommend the book Silent Revolution: How the Left Rose to Political Power and Cultural Dominance by the late Barry Rubin.

My wife’s frustration stemmed from the fact that she had gotten into a conversation with a person at a store, and it turns out the woman talked about “building an army” to take our country back. All the new friends we’ve made in Oklahoma are solidly right leaning individuals. I saw a doctor last Friday and he asked me if I planned to move back to Colorado. I said “No, I don’t like the way Colorado is going”, adding that my initial choice was to move to Texas. He told me he agreed and that he loved vacationing in Colorado but would never live there, adding that he too is a conservative, originally from Texas.

Rumblings

This morning we were talking about the “Let’s Go Brandon” phenomenon. As everybody should know, the viral meme stems from a CBS reporter talking to a NASCAR driver at a race in early October. As she interviewed Brandon Brown, she made mention of the crowd chanting “F*ck Joe Biden” as “Let’s Go Brandon”. The meme has gone viral, as crowds all across America at sporting and live music events are chanting their dissatisfaction with the President.

When Joe “The Big Guy” Biden’s predecessor was booed at an event – and let’s be honest, he got a lot of cheers too – it was big news for days. Now the mainstream media and the Democrats (but I repeat myself) ignore the “F*ck Joe Biden” chants and lie to us about what it is and what it represents.

There are other signs out there that our culture may be shifting.

Thanks to the COVID problem, we’ve seen just how readily leftists want to grow government, impose their views on you (Wear a mask! Get the jab!) and take your liberty without so much as a “by your leave”. We’ve also seen just how unnecessary public schools are, and how unaccountable and out of touch most school boards are. This is an issue that parents feel passionately about – how their children are being educated – and we’re seeing reform candidates running for school boards. We’re seeing how high performing charter schools, like Bob Schaffer’s Liberty Common High School in Fort Collins are becoming shining examples of how children should be educated. We see the homeschool movement growing by leaps and bounds.

In fact, the Democrats are in danger of losing the governorship of Virginia over this very issue. Incumbent Terry McAuliffe (D) is in hot water for openly saying what Democrats think about parents: “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach”. Because of this, he’s lost the lead he once had and Republican challenger Glenn Youngkin is closing the gap and stands a real chance of unseating McAuliffe.

On Wednesday October 20, former president Donald Trump launched a new social media network called “Truth Social”, part of the Trump Media and Technology Group.  The Wall Street Journal reports that “Investors have responded enthusiastically to the launch of Mr. Trump’s media company. Shares of Digital World Acquisition, the SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) taking Trump Media & Technology Group public, have risen nearly 10-fold since the announcement.”

I think that patriotic America is out there in force, and that people throughout the land are waking up to what’s going on. The progressives have abandoned all pretense of pretending to not be socialists, and are going for broke with their agenda because they know – THEY KNOW – that they will lose big in next year’s election. When their president’s approval rating is as low as Biden’s now is – low 40s high 30s – Democrats fear a trouncing at the polls next year.

I also think that part of the reason it seems as if the Left is winning is because most conservatives are, well, conservative. We’re polite. We don’t riot and engage in property damage (because we respect property). We don’t engage because we just want to be left alone. We don’t have the time or the energy to argue with people because we believe that everyone has a right to their opinion whether they’re right or wrong. We don’t spend our days on social media hating on the Left, their party, their media and their elected officials because…we have jobs. We have families to raise, and better things to do.

Call To Action

It’s time to speak up. It’s time to make our voices heard. It’s time to stop being polite and to stand in defense of the life we want based on the values we cherish. It’s time to reclaim Colorado and the nation.

While we libertarian/conservative folk want to live and let live, our opponents want to use the force of government to impose their vision of the world upon us, and to make us pay for it through higher taxes and regulation. While socialism calls for government ownership of the means of production, the Left in America today is not calling for that. Instead, they want to put so many restrictions and mandates on business and individuals and tax us at such exorbitant rates that the government might as well be in ownership of the means of production.

The midterm elections are a year from now. A year seems like a long time, but it will be here before we know it. In Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and throughout the nation, we need to work hard to get Republicans elected and hold them accountable once they win. Too many Republicans are seduced by the power of government, and too many want to use government force to impose THEIR view of the world on others. The only proper function of government is to protect life, liberty and property. Let’s stick with that.

In Colorado, I call upon my fellow libertarian/conservatives to stop the infighting and get behind good candidates and support them for office by volunteering, donating and voting. It is a mistake to not vote, as Republicans who don’t vote end up electing Democrats. Every vote counts, and yours is important.

Let’s stand for America and the principles of the American Founding. For “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and Happiness – That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the Governed…”

In Memory of David K. Williams

This past week the Liberty movement lost a giant in David K (DK) Williams. A man of great intellect and solid, consistently bound principles, he was a force for clear, principled libertarian thought. He will be sorely missed. Condolences and prayers to family and friends.
