Patriotic historian Ben Martin discusses Abraham Lincoln, a divided America, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the Dred Scott decision. Lincoln’s personal journey was marked by a deep sense of self-consciousness, as he felt ashamed of his appearance. Despite this, he possessed an inherent drive to better himself and overcome the challenges posed by his humble background. The negative experiences he endured during his childhood, including his father’s mistreatment and demanding nature, likely contributed to his strong opposition to slavery. While Lincoln did not adhere to organized religion, he maintained a belief in a higher power and the presence of God in his life. Listen to the full interview in the first hour.
