Historian Ben Martin begins his new series, Lincoln: Lie and Sword. Martin will be discussing Lincoln’s life and accomplishments this year in a series called Lincoln: Life and Sword. Martin considers Lincoln to be the father of the second founding of America. The first member of the Lincoln family to arrive in America was Thomas Lincoln, who came to Massachusetts in 1635. Thomas Lincoln was the father of Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln spent the majority of his childhood in Indiana. Lincoln exhibited a love for public speaking early on in his life, which aided in his successes in politics. Lincolns rhetoric and persuasion were his “sword.” Listen to the full interview in the first hour.

Urban Planners and Subsidized Housing

Land use and transportation expert Randal O’Toole discusses the explosion of subsidized housing in the Denver Metro area. Most Americans want to live in single family homes, but urban planners are building apartment complexes instead. Urban planners are pushing for “compact cities”, supposedly to save energy. Most citizens are getting taxed extra to pay for subsidized housing. Single family homes are the most affordable type of housing to build. Low income housing subsidies are much more expensive. Urban planners want to get rid of single family zoning laws so that they can push subsidized housing projects into neighborhoods. Similarly, trains are in high demand for construction right now as a means of leeching taxes from everyday people. Listen to the full interview in the second hour.
