Major General John Raaen served with the fifth Ranger Battalion at Normandy. Raaen, who is 100 years old, is the last surviving officer that landed in the first wave at Omaha Beach during D-Day. The first wave of troops encountered significant casualties as they forged a way for the waves that followed. Listen to the full interview in the second hour of the show.
Those who want to learn more can listen to the extended three-part interview Raaen conducted with Kim in 2021. Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3.
Excellent interviews Kim. Especially Gen. Raaen. He is incredibly lucid and sharp considering his advanced age. Has he revealed his secret of youthfulness?!
A grammar tip (common mistake): You said “… the last surviving officer that landed…”. Humans should be respected with “who/whom.” IE: …surviving officer who landed…”
Keep up the excellent work Kim!
