The Story Behind Constitution Week

Tom Goodfellow

Tom Goodfellow

Kim and Tom continue their conversation on the U.S. Constitution.  The celebration of the Constitution was started by the Daughters of America.  President Eisenhower signed Constitution Week into law on August 2, 1956.  Tom started it in Grand Lake, God’s country, due to unused fireworks from the Fourth of July.  Marc Auville, GLUSCW board member encourages individuals to read and understand the Constitution.   This is vital in today’s atmosphere.  Another GLUSCW board member, Mike Tompkins, quotes Franklin when asked what type of government you have given us, “A republic, if you can keep it!”  The answer to free speech is more free speech, do not be silenced and converse more.  Tom concludes by encouraging other areas of the country to start their own Constitution Week.
