The Colorado legislature convenes January 9th for the 2023 session. Member of the Joint Budget Committee Colorado Representative Rod Bockenfeld explains estimated revenue and spending for 2023. Bockenfeld represents HD 56. The joint budget committee has been working with the governor on his proposed budget for 2023, though there are still amendments being made to it. The proposed budget entails ~$37 billion in total. Half the budget is general fund, the other half is comprised of a number of small revenues (ie marijuana sale taxes). The governor signed Democrat legislation from a few years ago that entails $34 million per year for employee unionization. There’s an inherent structural imbalance in the governor’s budget per the amount of corporate money that is funding it. Listen to the full interview in the second hour.
