A School Resource Officer (SRO) joins Kim to discuss the recent action by Denver Public Schools and Boulder Valley School District to dissolve their School Resource Officer Program. This program is known to build positive relationships between students and the officers by offering a safe environment for the students to learn. SROs are the first line of defense and this defense runs throughout the community. By eliminating SROs, relationships are removed, and media becomes the single source of the police narrative. Private security does not undergo the training of SRO’s, including mental health, build relationships with the students, nor have legal authority.
Susan Harris, partner of the Kim Monson Show and sponsor of the series featuring Ben Martin exploring Important Speeches and Documents of the American Foundation, dissects the meaning of “conservatism” with Kim. Susan reflects that many people first experience suffering before they become introspective and contemplate profound ideas. Our founding fathers had to pick priorities and establishing a new nation was number one. They left the seed to end slavery stating “all men are created equal,” with the enrichment all men have the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Our humanity makes us all the same.
