For The United States of America, the story began on December 7th, 1942 with the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. The war had been raging for years, and America was more than ready to join the fight.

World War II took Americans around the world: Young men from the Midwest found themselves uprooted from farms and plunked onto battleships in the Pacific. New Yorkers accustomed to fighting traffic found themselves in the deserts of North Africa. Our soldiers found themselves in Germany, France, England, New Guinea, Okinawa, Japan, and in every instance our troops were prepared to give the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of country and liberty. 

For Kim Monson the story really began in 2016. An invitation from the Police Activities League to travel to Normandy with WWII veterans was the start of a mission to document and preserve the personal stories and experiences of these veterans, most of whom are now in their ninth decade.
