The ballot question
WITHOUT RAISING TAXES, SHALL THE EXISTING 0.3% TEMPORARY SALES AND USE TAX TO SUPPORT FINANCING OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A COMMUNITY RECREATION POOL AND RELATED POOL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS BY THE CAÑON CITY AREA METROPOLITAN RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT (THE "RECREATION DISTRICT") BE AMENDED TO PERMIT SUCH TAX TO ALSO BE USED FOR OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE OF THE COMMUNITY RECREATION POOL FACILITY AND RELATED POOL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS WHICH ARE OPERATED BY THE RECREATION DISTRICT; AS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED SHALL THE SALES AND USE TAX ONLY BE COLLECTED UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2050; SHALL THE CITY BE PERMITTED TO RETAIN ALL REVENUES PREVIOUSLY COLLECTED FROM THE TAX FOR THE PURPOSES HEREIN; SHALL THE CITY BE AUTHORIZED TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE RECREATION DISTRICT CREATING FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS EXTENDING BEYOND THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR TO PAY THE PLEDGED REVENUES, INCLUDING THOSE REVENUES PREVIOUSLY COLLECTED, TO THE RECREATION DISTRICT; AND SHALL THESE PLEDGED REVENUES BE COLLECTED, RETAINED, AND SPENT AS A VOTER APPROVED REVENUE CHANGE OF THE CITY NOTWITHSTANDING ANY REVENUE LIMITS PROVIDED BY LAW?

- A yes vote means
- The city could expand the pool tax’s uses, retain its revenue and commit payments to the recreation district beyond the current fiscal year.
- A no vote means
- The city would not receive these additional spending, revenue-retention and payment-agreement powers.
