The ballot question

SHALL HOTCHKISS FIRE DISTRICT TAXES BE INCREASED BY TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($280,000.00) ON JANUARY 1, 2027 AND BY SUCH AMOUNTS GENERATED ANNUALLY THEREAFTER FROM A SALES AND USE TAX OF FOUR TENTHS OF ONE PERCENT (0.4%) TO BE USED SOLEY FOR FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES WITHIN THE DISTRICT; AND SUCH TAX BE IN ADDITION TO THE CURRENT TAXES IMPOSED ON REAL PROPERTY OWNERS; AND MAY THE DISTRICT COLLECT, KEEP, AND SPEND THE REVENUES FROM SUCH TAX EVERY YEAR AS A VOTER APPROVED REVENUE CHANGE UNDER ARTICLE X, SECTION 20 OF THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION?

What a vote does

A yes vote means

Approves the new 0.4% sales and use tax and allows the district to retain and spend its revenue each year outside TABOR’s revenue limit.

A no vote means

Rejects this new sales and use tax and its revenue-limit exemption. Existing taxes remain.
