From Western Kansas to Colorado's Boldest Microphone
Kim Monson grew up in western Kansas, where a classical public K-12 education grounded her in the values she carries to this day. After attending the University of Kansas, she moved to Colorado and started as a bank teller in Longmont. It was the first step in a career that would take her from Wall Street to talk radio.
She joined a small stock brokerage firm as a trading assistant, passed her Series 7 exam, and went to work as an investment broker at Boettcher and Company. Within a few years, she became one of the youngest vice presidents at the firm. When her second child was born, she stepped away from finance to focus on her family, later spending years in the women's apparel business.
In 2013, Kim returned to public life as one of three co-hosts of the Americhicks on KLZ 560 AM. What began as a shared microphone quickly became her own. The Kim Monson Show now broadcasts every weekday morning, reaching listeners across Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, New Mexico, and the mountain West.
Her framework is simple: Freedom vs. Force. Every policy, every ballot measure, every government action is measured against that standard. She doesn't tell her audience what to think. She gives them the information and the framework to think for themselves.
The show has become a destination for policy experts, elected representatives, business leaders, and ordinary citizens. Kim's interview style is direct, well-prepared, and relentlessly honest. Her listeners don't tune in for comfort. They tune in for truth.

President of Colorado's Longest-Serving Taxpayer Advocacy Organization
In 2023, Kim became President of the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, a non-partisan, all-volunteer organization that has been a voice at the Colorado Capitol for over four decades. Under her leadership, CUT analyzes ballot measures, tracks government spending, and fights to protect the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights (TABOR).
Kim's tenure has been defined by confrontation with power. At Denver Decides in 2024, she stood at the podium and challenged $1.9 billion in new school debt for Denver Public Schools, a sales tax increase for affordable housing, and a sales tax increase for Denver Health, arguing that working Coloradans, already crushed by inflation and rising energy costs, could not bear what would become some of the highest sales tax rates in the country.
Her opponents that day included Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, Denver Health CEO Donna Lynne, and former Denver City Council President Albus Brooks. Kim held her ground. She always does.
Kim also served as a Lone Tree City Councilwoman from 2012 to 2016, where she gained firsthand experience in the machinery of local government, experience that informs every broadcast.
A Climate Conversation
A search for the truth.
In 2023, Kim stepped in front of the camera to narrate A Climate Conversation, a documentary that cuts through the rhetoric around climate policy to ask the simple questions that too often go unanswered.
Produced by geophysicist Walter Johnson and filmmaker Colton Moyer, the film brings together scientists and economists, including geophysicist Walt Gregory, energy infrastructure expert Ron Stein, Gregory Wrightstone of the CO2 Coalition, and Ken Gregory of the Friends of Science Society, to examine the real-world consequences of radical energy policies on everyday Americans.
Honoring Those Who Served
In 2016, Kim traveled with a group organized by the Denver Police Activities League to accompany four D-Day veterans to Normandy, France, for the 72nd anniversary of the landing. Joe Scida, Frank DeVita, Conrad Lohoefer, and Guy Whidden made the journey. Frank DeVita had been a ramp operator on a Higgins Boat landing craft in the first wave at Omaha Beach. He was 19 years old on June 6, 1944.
Sitting with him at the cliffs of Normandy, Kim realized these stories needed to be heard and preserved before they were lost forever. She created America's Veteran's Stories with Kim Monson, which has since documented the experiences of hundreds of veterans with a particular focus on the Greatest Generation's WWII service members.
Working alongside the Center for American Values, and supported by partnerships with the United States Marine Corps Memorial in Golden, Colorado and the USMC Memorial Foundation, the project honors veterans from every conflict and peacetime service in American history. It is a labor of love and a testament to Kim's belief that the sacrifices of those who served must never be forgotten.
The Woman Behind the Microphone
Kim Monson is a small business owner and a Coloradan who has spent her adult life in the state she fights for every morning before most people finish their first cup of coffee.
Her path from a bank teller's window in Longmont to one of the youngest vice presidents at a major brokerage firm taught her that success comes from preparation, persistence, and the refusal to accept "no" as a final answer. Stepping away from finance to raise her children taught her something different: that the policies made in capitols and city halls land hardest at the kitchen table.

That's what makes Kim different. She isn't a pundit performing for an audience. She's a neighbor who decided someone needed to stand up and tell the truth, and then did exactly that, every single day, for over a decade.
