September 18, 2024

Conservation

The careful preservation and protection of natural resources, wildlife, and the environment; the planned management of natural resources to prevent exploitation, destruction, or neglect.

From Latin 'conservare' meaning 'to keep, preserve, guard' - combining 'con-' (together) and 'servare' (to keep safe).

Usage Examples

  1. Colorado Parks and Wildlife's conservation efforts have maintained healthy mountain lion populations for over a century.
  2. Hunters and anglers have championed conservation since the early 1900s through self-regulation and license fees.
  3. True conservation balances human recreation with sustainable wildlife management.

From the Show

The principle of conservation anchored the September 18th discussion as Lauren Truitt explained how hunters and Colorado Parks and Wildlife have protected the state’s natural heritage for 125 years.
