Engagement

Active participation and involvement in civic or political processes; the act of taking part in public affairs rather than remaining passive.

From Old French 'engager', meaning to pledge or bind, from 'en-' (make) + 'gage' (pledge). The concept evolved to encompass commitment and active participation in affairs beyond oneself.

Usage Examples

  1. Citizen engagement is so important. Voting is not just enough.
  2. When citizens disengage from the public process, your government grows.
  3. My advice to everybody is to step up, to show up, to speak up.
