Engagement
Active participation and involvement in civic or political processes; the act of taking part in public affairs rather than remaining passive.
From Old French 'engager', meaning to pledge or bind, from 'en-' (make) + 'gage' (pledge). The concept evolved to encompass commitment and active participation in affairs beyond oneself.
Usage Examples
- Citizen engagement is so important. Voting is not just enough.
- When citizens disengage from the public process, your government grows.
- My advice to everybody is to step up, to show up, to speak up.
