Infamy

A very bad reputation or notoriety; the condition of being infamous or disgraced; an evil or criminal act that is publicly known.

From Latin 'infamia', meaning ill fame or disgrace, derived from 'in-' (not) + 'fama' (fame, reputation).

Usage Examples

  1. December 7, 1941 is a date which will live in infamy.
  2. The politician achieved infamy as the central figure in the corruption scandal.
  3. His betrayal ensured his name would be remembered with infamy rather than honor.
