Precarious
Dependent on chance circumstances, unknown conditions, or uncertain developments; dangerously lacking in security or stability.
From Latin 'precarius' meaning 'obtained by entreaty or prayer,' derived from 'prex' (prayer). Originally described something held at another's pleasure, thus uncertain and dependent on the will of others.
