Persecution

The systematic mistreatment of an individual or group by another individual or group, especially because of their religious beliefs, ethnic origin, or political views.

From Latin 'persecutio' (pursuit, persecution), derived from 'persequi' (to follow persistently, pursue), from 'per-' (through) + 'sequi' (to follow).

Usage Examples

  1. Christians in Afghanistan face severe persecution under Taliban rule, with believers executed for possessing Bible apps on their phones.
