Resoluteness

The quality of being resolute; firm determination and unwavering commitment to a course of action despite obstacles or opposition.

From Latin 'resolutus' (loosened, relaxed), past participle of 'resolvere' (to loosen), combined with the suffix '-ness' indicating a state or quality. The word evolved to mean firmly determined through the sense of having resolved or settled on a course of action.
