Safeguarding

The action of protecting someone or something from harm, damage, or threat; the measures taken to preserve and defend rights, security, or well-being.

From 'safe' (Old French 'sauf', from Latin 'salvus' meaning uninjured, healthy) combined with 'guard' (Old French 'garder', to keep, protect). The compound 'safeguard' emerged in Middle English as both noun and verb denoting protection against danger.
