Subterfuge
A deceptive stratagem or device used to evade, escape, or conceal; the practice of using such methods to achieve an end.
From Late Latin 'subterfugium,' from Latin 'subterfugere' meaning 'to flee secretly,' from 'subter' (beneath) + 'fugere' (to flee). First used in English in the 16th century to describe evasive tactics.
