Mike Tompkins is co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Grand Lake U.S. Constitution Week, an annual celebration that has grown from a small local event into what organizers describe as America's premier Constitution celebration. He has been involved with the event since its second year and has been instrumental in building it into a model for constitutional celebrations nationwide.

Tompkins owns the Western Riviera Resort in Grand Lake, Colorado, a lakefront property that serves as a base for his civic engagement work. Before his retirement, he worked as a patent attorney, bringing legal expertise to his understanding of constitutional principles.

As speaker coordinator and later Chairman, Tompkins has recruited constitutional scholars, military veterans, and notable speakers to the event, including Medal of Honor recipients and ambassadors. He emphasizes the connection between military service and the Constitution, noting that 30 of the 39 signers were military veterans.

Grand Lake U.S. Constitution Week has grown to feature constitutional lectures, youth programming including Youth Appreciation Day, a parade, F-16 flyovers, and the dedication of a Veterans Memorial Park. Tompkins has appeared on the Kim Monson Show seven times to promote the event and discuss constitutional principles.

“Every single service member swears to support and uphold the Constitution. So they have a direct tie to doing that. But what I didn't know, and I had to look this up, we're celebrating the signing of the Constitution, and 39 of our founding fathers signed it. So 30 of them were military veterans. So our veterans not only support and uphold the Constitution, they actually wrote it, including James Madison, who's considered the father of the Constitution, was an American Revolutionary War veteran.”
