1937–2026

College football coach who led Notre Dame to the 1988 national championship with a 12-0 record. Born in Follansbee, West Virginia, Holtz compiled a career record of 249-132-7 across six programs: William & Mary, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina. Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2020. He died March 4, 2026, in Orlando, Florida, at age 89.
