September 5, 2025

Acquiesce

To accept, comply, or submit tacitly or passively; to go along with something without active protest or resistance.

From Latin 'acquiescere' meaning 'to rest' or 'to be satisfied with,' from 'ad-' (to) + 'quiescere' (to be quiet).

Usage Examples

  1. Many Americans have acquiesced to government overreach simply because they were too busy to pay attention.
  2. We must not acquiesce to narratives that expand government power without voter approval.
  3. Citizens who acquiesce to higher taxes without scrutiny enable unchecked spending.

From the Show

Kim Monson introduced acquiesce as the word of the day on the September 5th broadcast, warning listeners against passively accepting government expansion of power without active civic engagement.
