2020. The year we hope will be over soon. But what if a temporal solution doesn’t exist? Are we stuck with this level of civil unrest, destruction, and disease? It isn’t one thing that offends our sense of right, justice or freedom. It is many. In this Op-Ed, Founder and CEO of First American State Bank Jay Davidson gets to the core of the matter: what offends us most are the lies that so many citizens buy into and we have the freedom of choice to believe or not believe.

2020. What a year and it’s not over yet. We’ve seen the Impeachment and Acquittal of President Trump. The COVID-19/Wuhan Virus reaction disruption. Riots. The destruction of hardworking, everyday individual’s property in Democrat/Blue run cities.

2020. The year we hope will be over soon. But what if a temporal solution doesn’t exist? Are we stuck with this level of civil unrest, destruction, and disease? It isn’t one thing that offends our sense of right, justice or freedom. It is many. To get to the core of the matter, what offends us most are the lies that so many citizens buy into:

  • If you are white, you are a racist.
  • If you are a cop, you kill blacks.
  • If you are patriotic and love your nation, you are a fascist.
  • If you are white, you’re responsible for every evil perpetrated over the last three centuries.
  • If you are heterosexual, white, successful, you are the enemy.
  • If you don’t believe as told, you are the enemy.

Whatever happened to Freedom of Thought and expression?  If we are free to act as individuals, then we can decide for ourselves.  If we are oppressed by our government, then we are forced to act another way.  For instance:

If the Left wants to wear masks, let them. But why do they insist everyone else wears them?  If masks are so effective, your wearing one should protect you.  The point is that one group likes to impose their views on others by force, regulation or law.  Read on:

If the Left hates gun, don’t own one. But why do they try to preclude the rest of us from owning a means of self-defense?  Restricting gun ownership from law-abiding citizens actually increases violent behavior by criminals.

If the Left wants the government to tax and spend for entitlements and welfare, why should the rest of us be forced to pay for their failed ideas?  The Left can easily spend their own money to support these failed programs.  The way of individual freedom supports economic growth through better jobs unrestrained by excessive taxation and regulation.  Thereby, the individual has the freedom to choose work over handouts.  Freedom is the only moral argument.

The over-riding theme is that the Left is not satisfied with living their lives according to their principles.  The Left wants to control what you do.  This election, and everyone to come, hinges on this point.  Do you want to take personal responsibility for your life and thereby live in freedom?  Or do you want some mythical “benevolent” big brother to control your life?

The foundation of our Constitutional Republic is the individual, not the collective.  Our Nation is unique in this one principle: The sanctity of the individual.  We already have the framework for Rule by Law in the Constitution and Amendments. Just about any additional rule, regulation and tax deducts from individual freedom and brings us closer to Rule by Regulation, and thereby control by a central government.

20/20.  Perfectly clear vision.  The Left has fully revealed their intent.  No more subversion, stealth, or dark manipulation, they are out in the open and intend to change your world to their version of reality.  Since 2008, when Obama told us he would “Fundamentally change America,” it’s become clear that he, and the Left, meant just that.  This is the reality with which we must deal.

The problem is that I don’t want, nor do I think America needs, to change to the Leftist’s vision.  This is where the rubber meets the road: We don’t need to bow to the Left’s demands, we don’t need to take a knee to their perversions.  We need to stand up to them, decry their falsehoods, lies and deception.  Better to live free than grant any lie.  Our immortal soul demands it.

I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ’Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.” —Thomas Paine (1776)

It is now perfectly clear that the elections are about the shining City on the Hill, including our Constitutional Republic and its recognition of individual freedom.  The other choice is a controlling Left intent on destroying our foundation and forcing citizens under their control.  2020!  You are Free to Choose.  To not act is to acquiesce.
