Tom Petrie is Chairman of Petrie Partners LLC, a Denver-based energy investment banking firm that provides specialized financial advisory services to the oil and gas industry. With over four decades in the energy sector, he has served as an active advisor on more than $250 billion in energy-related mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to founding Petrie Partners in 2012, Petrie served as Vice Chairman of Bank of America Merrill Lynch and was a co-founder of Petrie Parkman & Co., which merged with Merrill Lynch in 2006. He was previously a Managing Director and Senior Oil Analyst at The First Boston Corporation. Institutional Investor Magazine recognized him as the top oil and gas exploration and production analyst for eight consecutive years.
Petrie's advisory work has included assignments advising Saudi Arabia on natural gas initiatives, the State of Alaska on gas pipeline options, and the U.S. Department of Energy on the sale of the Elk Hills oilfield. He is the author of "Following Oil: Four Decades of Cycle-Testing Experiences and What They Foretell about U.S. Energy Independence."
A West Point graduate and Vietnam veteran, Petrie holds an MSBA in finance from Boston University and an honorary doctorate from the Colorado School of Mines. He serves as a trustee of the Denver Art Museum, on the board of governors of the Colorado School of Mines Foundation, and as chairman of the National Western Stock Show Citizens of the West steering committee.
Petrie appeared frequently on the Kim Monson Show during 2020-2021 to analyze oil market dynamics, energy policy implications, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global energy markets.
