Gregorio Beltran Lopez was born June 7, 1964, and grew up in Irving, Texas, as the child of farm workers. He joined the United States Air Force in 1983, serving until 1987 as a weapons specialist at Holloman Air Force Base before sustaining hearing loss that ended his active duty service. He moved to Colorado in 1988.
Lopez was elected Mayor of Parker, Colorado at age 27 in 1992, serving two terms. He initially served as a Democrat before switching to the Republican Party in 1994. He later served as Colorado District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration from 2008 to 2014, gaining extensive experience supporting small business development.
In 2022, Lopez ran for Governor of Colorado as a Republican, campaigning on limited government, deregulation, and support for rural Colorado. He remained active in Colorado politics after the race. In 2024, he was selected by Republican vacancy committee to run in the special election for Colorado's 4th Congressional District following Ken Buck's resignation. He won the special election and served in Congress from July 8, 2024 to January 3, 2025, where he introduced the Red Card Solution immigration reform legislation and worked with DOGE on government waste issues.
Lopez serves as President and CEO of Colorado Hispanic Republicans and has been an advocate for Hispanic business owners and outreach to the Hispanic community. He operates small businesses with his wife Lisa in Elizabeth, Colorado.
In 2025, Lopez announced his candidacy for Colorado Governor, campaigning on a platform focused on affordability, public safety, government deregulation, and addressing the wolf reintroduction crisis affecting Western Slope ranchers. He has appeared on the Kim Monson Show over 25 times since 2020.
