Kim Monson's Quote of the Day:
April 29, 2024

All battles are first won or lost, in the mind.

Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid of Orléans, is a pivotal figure in French history and a saint in the Catholic Church. Born around 1412 in Domrémy, France, she rose from a peasant girl to a national heroine during the Hundred Years’ War between France and England. At just 17, she claimed to have visions from saints instructing her to support Charles VII and help rid France of English domination. Her presence revitalized the French spirit, and she played a crucial role in the siege of Orléans in 1429, leading to a significant French victory.

Captured by the Burgundians in 1430, she was sold to the English and tried for charges including heresy and witchcraft. Despite her brave defense, she was burned at the stake in 1431, at only 19 years old. Her execution spurred her mythos, leading to her canonization in 1920, symbolizing courage and faith.
