Kim Monson's Quote of the Day:
January 17, 2024

Where you have no religion, you are sure to have no government, for as religion disappears, anarchy takes place and fixes a compleat Hell on earth till religion returns.

Daniel Morgan

Daniel Morgan, born in 1736 in New Jersey, emerged as a notable figure in American history, particularly during the Revolutionary War. His life, marked by humble beginnings, saw him initially working in Pennsylvania as a laborer and wagon driver. Morgan’s military career began with the French and Indian War, where he served notably but also endured a British judicial whipping, fostering a lifelong disdain for British authority.

Morgan’s true prominence arose during the American Revolution. He was instrumental in forming the elite ranger unit known as “Morgan’s Riflemen,” renowned for their marksmanship and innovative tactics. His leadership was pivotal in crucial battles, most notably the Battle of Saratoga (1777) and his brilliant victory at the Battle of Cowpens (1781), which significantly contributed to the eventual American victory.

Post-war, Morgan briefly served as a U.S. Congressman from Virginia. He passed away in 1802, leaving a legacy as a tactical genius and Revolutionary hero.
