Professor Bruce Gilley, author of The Case for Colonialism, notes the evidence is clear that colonized countries did better than non-colonized ones and that countries that maintained their colonial infrastructure after independence did better than those which did not. Gilley, a professor of political science at Portland State University, holds a perspective on colonialism that differs from mainstream views. He believes that colonialism is a natural method for developing civilizations and structuring societies, despite the general negative connotation associated with the term. According to Gilley, the advantages provided by colonialism significantly surpass its detriments. He also critiques the efforts by institutions to “decolonize” history, arguing that these attempts unfairly demonize colonizers while overly focusing on the experiences of the colonized, thereby distorting the true facts of history.
