Kim Monson's Quote of the Day:
April 19, 2024

One visit to a country without freedom makes one realize that freedom is a precious gift worth fighting for.

Ernest West

Ernest E. West, born on September 2, 1931, in Russell, Kentucky, is a distinguished American hero and a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the United States’ highest and most prestigious military decoration. West was honored for his extraordinary bravery during the Korean War while serving as a private first class in the U.S. Army.

On October 12, 1952, near Satae-ri, Korea, West demonstrated remarkable courage and selflessness. Despite being severely wounded, he undertook a daring rescue to save his comrades. During an ambush, West charged an enemy position, killing three and capturing one enemy soldier. Despite being blinded by a grenade in this heroic action, he continued to lead and evacuate wounded soldiers, ensuring their safety under intense fire.

West’s actions embody the highest ideals of military service—valor, sacrifice, and dedication. His bravery not only saved lives but also inspired countless others, making him a lasting symbol of American heroism.
