Author Pam Long discusses CDPHE’s 2024 priorities of climate change, gun control, and sexually transmitted diseases.  The CDPHE has outlined three “wildly important goals” for the year, which include reducing ozone emissions, cutting healthcare costs, and curbing the transmission of syphilis. Through these objectives, the CDPHE is leveraging its authority to advance a specific agenda. However, the effectiveness of these efforts and the accountability of the CDPHE may hinge significantly on either a substantial public outcry or legal action, suggesting that without significant external pressure, achieving these ambitious goals could face challenges. Listen to the full interview in the second hour.

Interview with Kevin Lundberg

Former State Senator Kevin Lundberg addresses this week’s agenda at the Colorado State Legislature. The criminal trial for Tina Peters was set to commence last week; however, it has been postponed due to unforeseen external circumstances. In legislative developments, SB 24-131 is on the table, aiming to ban the carrying of firearms in sensitive areas, including polling locations. Another significant bill, SB 24-084, seeks to empower the attorney general with special privileges to tackle the issue of misinformation, allowing for more proactive measures in preventing and combating its spread. Meanwhile, a series of second amendment bills have been introduced in response to the widespread outrage triggered by the proposed pet registration bill, highlighting the contentious nature of current legislative debates.

Kim Monson's Quote of the Day:
February 13, 2024

The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win.

Roger Bannister

Roger Bannister, born on March 23, 1929, was a British middle-distance athlete and neurologist who etched his name into history on May 6, 1954, by becoming the first person to run a mile in under four minutes. Achieving this feat at the Iffley Road Track in Oxford, Bannister completed the mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds, breaking through a psychological barrier and setting a new standard in athletics. Before this accomplishment, many believed it was humanly impossible to run a mile in less than four minutes. Bannister’s landmark achievement not only shattered this myth but also inspired future generations of athletes to push beyond perceived limits. After retiring from competitive running, he had a distinguished career in neurology. Bannister’s legacy is not just in his record-breaking run but also in his contribution to medicine and his embodiment of the amateur athlete spirit. He passed away on March 3, 2018, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance and excellence.
