Urban and transportation expert Randal O’Toole addresses solutions to government-run housing. Affordable housing and housing that is affordable represent distinct concepts. Affordable housing primarily refers to subsidized housing initiatives, which often involve government support to make housing accessible to lower-income individuals. However, the irony lies in the fact that subsidized housing, while well-intentioned, can inadvertently contribute to increased housing demand and decreased supply, thereby exerting upward pressure on overall housing prices. This situation may result in a paradox where the pursuit of “affordable housing” ultimately renders housing unaffordable for a broader segment of the population. A tangible example of this paradox can be observed in Denver, where extensive apartment complex construction near public transportation routes has proliferated under the banner of “affordable housing.” Regrettably, these developments can be both inefficient and costly, raising questions about the effectiveness and sustainability of such initiatives. Interview with Art Arthur

Art Arthur with the Center for Renewing America shares updates on Congress and the government shut-down. Biden’s recent focus on border security comes after an estimated 2.8 million individuals have crossed the border this year, though some reports suggest the actual number is closer to 4.4 million. It’s worth noting that Biden was once a strong advocate for border security, but he shifted his stance around the time of his 2020 election, likely to differentiate himself from the policies associated with the Trump administration. The Biden administration has been utilizing the Emergency Food and Shelter Program to address immigrants’ needs, a move that carries implications for taxes and inflation. It’s a reminder that border security should be a non-partisan concern, as it’s a vital component of national governance that transcends political divides.
