Allen Thomas discusses his most recent essay, I’ll Give You Amnesty on One Condition. Thomas’ essay addresses an article in The Atlantic which asked readers to “declare a pandemic amnesty,” which prompted him to ask what will prevent further Covid-related travesties from occurring in the future. Numerous sources are conceding that the Covid pandemic reaction was overblown and unnecessary. Thomas feels that these concessions aren’t enough, and that the entities responsible for various covid regulations need to give up the power they’ve maintained & exerted over the public. Professor Allen Guelzo on The Gettsyburg Address

Princeton professor and expert on Gettysburg Dr. Allen Guelzo explains the importance of The Gettysburg Address and Lincoln’s words, “and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” The Gettysburg Address was given on November 19th, 1863. Guelzo discusses Abraham Lincoln in observance of the anniversary. Lincoln’s strong empathy and sensitivity to the human condition is one of many factors that continues to make him such a compelling figure, even 159 years after delivering the Gettysburg Address. Gettysburg was a modestly small crossroads town, which suddenly was ravaged by some ~160,000 troops, ~50,000 of which died (not accounting for animal casualties). The Gettysburg Address was delivered when the town was still in a state of disarray. The Gettysburg Address was a mere 272 words delivered over 2 1/2 minutes. Listen to the full interview in the second hour.
