Mische has worked with Day for many years. Mische discusses the story of the Black-Robed Regiment, the clergymen who supported American independence through the struggle against Britain, as an example of churches doing good in the history of America.
Churches are often hesitant to talk about political issues because they’re tax exempt; discussing these issues may draw the attention of the IRS. Being afraid of God doesn’t necessarily entail literal fear – it could be worded alternatively as “acquiescing to his will”, understanding what God is and the role he plays in one’s life. Abortion is a critical extention of the topic of the protection of children. The legality of abortion is a threat to the safety of children. There’s been a dramatic drop in numbers of Christians in America in the past 20 years. Churches are losing influence due to their tendency to be politically passive.
