Kim Monson's Quote of the Day:
March 7, 2024

It is in the interest of tyrants to reduce the people to ignorance and vice. For they cannot live in any country where virtue and knowledge prevail.

Samuel Adams (1722-1803) was a pivotal figure in American history, celebrated for his role in advancing the American Revolution and helping to shape the foundations of the United States. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Adams was a politician, philosopher, and one of the Founding Fathers. He graduated from Harvard College and initially pursued a career in business before dedicating himself to colonial politics. Adams was instrumental in voicing opposition to British taxation without representation, notably playing a significant role in organizing the Boston Tea Party in 1773. He was a master of protest and utilized the power of written and spoken word to unite the colonies against British rule. Adams served in the Continental Congress, where he was a strong advocate for independence. Later, as a Massachusetts state politician, he contributed to the drafting of the Commonwealth’s constitution. Samuel Adams’ legacy is that of a passionate advocate for liberty and democracy, whose efforts were crucial in the fight for American independence.
